Who we are
Nine Pines Ventures (NPV) began as a family office, created to manage the proceeds from the sale of Nine Pines Ranch in Oklahoma. Following the 2008 global financial crisis (GFC), additional family members entrusted Ron Moore with managing their investment portfolios. With a strong strategy in place, the original heirs left their accounts in Ron’s capable hands. Over time, the circle expanded to include friends facing challenges such as caring for aging parents or other personal hardships.
In 2023, NPV officially formalized its operations and registered as a California-based Investment Advisor.
Ronald (Ron) D. Moore, born in 1960, is the sole owner and proprietor of Nine Pines Ventures. He holds a Master of Science in Computer and Information Science from Oklahoma State University. Before founding NPV, Ron served as the Vice President of Business Development at Arm, Inc., where he worked in various roles across Marketing and Commercial Operations. He led a team focused on semiconductor market analysis and crafted go-to-market strategies for global market segments. Ron was also involved in numerous M&A projects, where he developed financial models and cash flow statements.
Leveraging this extensive experience and his commitment to continuous learning, Ron has consistently outperformed the S&P 500 for more than a decade.

NPV offers a variety of services including financial planning and portfolio management.
A family office is a private entity established by a wealthy individual or family to manage their assets, investments, and a wide range of personal and financial affairs with a focus on both wealth preservation and growth across generations. Usually, a family office is limited to ultra-high-net-worth families those with more than $30–100 million in investable assets.
Nine Pines Ventures is a Multi-Family Office (MFO) setup to serve first and second generation high-net-worth families with more than $2–15 million in investable assets and provide comprehensive services that extend far beyond traditional investment management. In addition to handling investments, they can address estate planning, philanthropy coordination, family governance, accounting, and property management.
NPV offers a range of financial planning services, each customized to meet the unique needs and goals of our clients. We create tailored strategies based on the client's goals, such as retirement savings, Incremental income, or funding college expenses. A comprehensive, written Financial Plan is provided, with separate sections for each goal, which the client can review and discuss.
As an Investment Advisor, NPV does not receive commissions on recommended investments, insurance, or real estate. Clients are under no obligation to follow the advisor’s recommendations. Should a client choose to act on any of the recommendations, there is no requirement to complete the transaction through NPV or its services. Nine Pines Ventures started operations on January 1, 2025 and has $15 million Assets Under Management (AUM).
NPV offers portfolio management services for individual investors in publicly traded securities. While a separate Financial Plan is recommended, it is not mandatory. To authorize management, the client must complete an "Investment Guideline and Limitations" agreement. The portfolio will be managed with a focus on achieving the client's goals while adhering to their specified risk profile. Any social preferences or restrictions will be respected.
Stock selections are based on fundamental analysis, which evaluates factors such as revenue, earnings, cash flow, and management stability. Key trends are continuously monitored to identify any changes in these fundamentals.
Approach
ANALYSIS METHODS
At NPV, we conduct thorough fundamental analysis of individual companies, leveraging discounted cash flow (DCF) models, both GAAP and non-GAAP metrics, and insights from executive communications. Additionally, we employ quantitative (statistical) methods to formulate strategies poised for market success.
It is important to note that investing in securities carries the risk of loss, including both profits and principal. Clients should ensure they are comfortable with this level of risk and prepared to bear potential losses.
BUY-AND-HOLD
The majority of NPV clients use a Buy-and-Hold strategy in mutual funds and public companies with strong balance sheets and good earnings and cash flow for long-term capital preservation and growth. The principle is that we select good companies (e. g., stocks) and become an owner of the company. The material risks of this strategy are the business risks of the stock in the portfolio. Of course, we continuously evaluate the company’s operations and executive team to ensure they remain a quality company. If not, we reduce or eliminate the position in the portfolio.
PORTFOLIO HEDGE
High net worth clients use a portion of their portfolio to pursue a Portfolio Hedge with Options strategy, or options, to hedge against market and economic risks. This strategy involves writing Covered CALLs for stocks trading near all-time highs to preserve profits and buying PUTs to protect against downside market risks. Option strategies are subject to volatility risk as well as the business risk of the underlying stock. These strategies have a greater inherent investment risk of loss than Buy-and-Hold.
Venture Investing
NPV also invests in early-stage, Series A and Series B, companies that have potential to become strong operating companies or exit through acquisition.
